HARM REDUCTION & integration

Physis offers Psychedelic-Informed Relational Psychotherapy, as well as Harm Reduction and  Integration for those who have experienced, or will be experiencing, the transformational processes of psychedelic-assisted therapies, plant medicine ceremonies, or any such experience that might have expanded and deepened the individual consciousness.

In the midst of what is often referred to in the Global North as the "psychedelic renaissance," psychoactive plants and other psychedelic compounds remain widely misunderstood and stigmatized in mainstream society. Those who have undergone profound and, at times, challenging experiences often struggle to convey their insights and feelings to those who haven't shared similar journeys. These insights might be bewildering, overwhelming, and challenging to integrate into everyday life. Engaging in discussions about these experiences within a therapeutic framework helps clients realise that their thoughts, visions, or emotions are not unique, normalising the often extraordinary aspects of the psychedelic journey.

PSYCHEDELIC-INFORMED
RELATIONAL PSYCHOTHERAPY

A psychedelic-informed relational approach can be helpful for people navigating expanded states of consciousness—whether through personal exploration, clinical settings, or traditional Sacred Plants ceremonies. This modality extends beyond conventional talking therapy, incorporating an understanding of the unique psychological, emotional, and spiritual dimensions of these experiences.

Entheogens can be profoundly healing, disorienting, or both. Without proper understanding, these experiences risk being dismissed or pathologized, leaving participants feeling invalidated or misunderstood. Psychedelic-informed therapy provides a grounded, non-judgmental space, recognising the depth and significance of these journeys while supporting their careful integration into daily life.

Experiences in expanded states can resurface difficult emotions, past trauma, or existential questions. A psychotherapeutic journey can help individuals prepare, process, and integrate insights while mitigating risks through attention to set, setting, and personal readiness. Trauma-sensitive and somatic approaches can further assist in regulating intense emotions and working through challenging material that may emerge.

While these experiences can be transformative, they also require discernment and integration. Psychedelic-informed therapy helps prevent spiritual bypassing, ego inflation, or disorientation, ensuring that insights remain grounded and actionable rather than destabilizing.

Many entheogenic medicines originate from Indigenous traditions with deep cultural and spiritual significance. Ethical and respectful engagement is essential, and psychedelic-informed therapy helps clients navigate the complex intersections of personal healing, cultural appreciation, and responsible practice.

Entheogens are not a magic fix, nor should they be seen as shortcuts—they work best when woven into a broader therapeutic and self-development framework. A psychedelic-informed relational approach bridges these disciplines, ensuring a holistic, well-rounded integration process that fosters deep and lasting change.

“The experience of psychedelics is just opening the door. What you do with it afterwards is where the real work begins.”
